It took about a week of printing, modeling and soldering, but it’s finally done. Chess never looked so epic. The pieces were smoothed with cold acetone vapor for that extra gloss. I also used acetone to weld some pieces together and it’s holding up pretty good.
Everything was printed with PolyLite Jet Black and Pop Blue ASA.

Everything else was modeled in Blender.
I modified the chess board to allow installation of custom modeled risers below the tiles. This would give the space to install lots of LEDs below. The risers are also spacers to allow a 1mm gap between each piece so the light below can shine through.
Chess piece holders were modeled in Blender to fit each one specifically. Lots of boolean operations
